Age Hardening
|
|
|
Artificial aging is what makes the metals
hard. They normally take long periods of time depending
on the final temper desired. We age many jobs for a total
of 36 hours. This process is continuously monitored by Quality
Control. Before the parts go into the ovens, Quality Control
verifies that the paperwork is correct and at that time
the work is put into the ovens. At a minimum of 1 hour,
Quality Control verifies that each and every oven is working
properly by checking temperature strip charts, and the multipoint
logs.
In addition to the checks performed by Quality Control,
all of the ovens are equipped with over-temp controllers.
These controllers monitor the temperature for rises in heat.
If the oven begins to overheat, the over-temp controller
will kick in and turn off the burners. At that time an alarm
will sound warning the personnel that something is wrong.
The equipment failure is corrected immediately.
When the time is up and the parts are believed to be at
the desired temper, they are transferred to the Final Inspection
department.
